Our Country. Our Identity.

I just read a good post from my friend Joe's blog, I suggest you go have a look at it too. I posted a comment there and felt that I should also post my answer here and elaborate further:

**Yes, Marcos was the best president we have had in the past decades.

Sometimes i tend to think that it isnt the government that needs to reform, but instead it is the populace that needs to rethink on what they do. They vote for someone only to regret it later. So does one vote count? No.

And to answer Primo's question: Is our government doing it's job? Certainly not. But we also have to ask ourselves, have we done anything to help? No one wins when the mentality of the en masse tend to be "Me, Myself and I" instead of it being "Myself and My Country".

I dont think we really grasp the situation on just how irrelevant our justice system is. People tend to not obey traffic laws because of the knowledge that if we make a mistake and a cop pulls us over, a couple of hundred pesos will get us off the hook and our records clean. I myself have paid a cop off to avoid a violation of the traffic laws. We DONT take the law seriously. Period.

Who cares about what Kris Aquino likes or feels? Pathetic people who care more about her life than their own. Sad but true. I lost all respect for this woman when she announced unabashedly on live tv about her having been affected by an STD during a relationship with another celebrity. There are things that I feel should be best left unsaid, dont you?

Why do you waste a million pesos for a career in politics? Maybe the reason is that thru politics, they can reclaim the millions they spend during their campaign, plus millions more, with shady and under the table deals. Corrupt polititians the world can do without. But ask yourself, if the offer was extended to you, what would you say and/or do? The answer may differ once the temptation is staring right at you in the face.

Does anyone respect the Philippine flag? I'd like to say yes, most of us do. I for one have a Philippine flag in my room. I would proudly hang it if it werent that my room has no space to put it up in.

And no, I dont want to be president. With all the politicking, intrigues, stress and pressure, not to mention a low salary(hmm or is it..?); who would want such a burden??

Now It's my turn to ask but just 2 questions:
Our country. Our identity. Where is it headed and what are we destined for...?

4 am rain
Don't move
Don't talk out of time
Don't think
Don't worry
Everything's just fine
Just fine
Don't grab
Don't clutch
Don't hope for too much
Don't breathe
Don't achieve
Or grieve without leave
Don't check
Just balance on the fence
Don't answer
Don't ask
Don't try and make sense
Don't whisper
Don't talk
Don't run if you can walk
Don't cheat, compete
Don't miss the one beat
Don't travel by train
Don't eat
Don't spill
Don't piss in the drain
Don't make a will
Don't fill out any forms
Don't compensate
Don't cower
Don't crawl
Don't come around late
Don't hover at the gate
Don't theorize, realise, polarise
Chance, dance,dismiss, apologise
Enough
Don't spy
Don't lie
Don't try
Imply
Detain
Explain
Start again
Don't fantasize
Rise
Don't lie
Project
Don't connect
Protect
Don't expect
Suggest.
